MUSON School
The School was established 1989, teaching initially in temporary accommodation provided at
Corona Schools in Victoria Island and Apapa before it moved to its permanent accommodation
at the MUSON Centre in 1994.
Physical Structure
The School occupies three floors and is situated in the building adjacent to the Shell Nigeria hall.
The library and School administration are located on the first floor while the second floor houses
two equal size ensemble room and nine individual practice Rooms. Additional space for the School is
provided in the School Annex located on the Ground floor, Mobile Block.
Training Offered:
Basic Course
This part-time course provides basic training in the theory and practice of music.
Practical lessons are given in Voice, Piano, Violin, Organ, Double Bass, Recorder and trumpet.
The school also conducts graded theory and practical examinations twice a year.
Diploma Course
Introduced in 2006, full-time, the Diploma Course is designed as well rounded performance-based musical
training with students being required to attain a high standard on a major instrument or voice and be
thoroughly exposed to all instrumental Families. In addition, students will have theory and history
Courses to make them well-educated musicians. The School's objective is to make this course comparable
to similar ones abroad.
Examinations
The School conducts grade Certificate Examinations at various centres in Nigeria. Holders of appropriate
grade certificates in Practical qualify for exemption from practical sections of the SSCE music as well
as admission into polytechnics, colleges of education and universities.
